How to Apply

SAO
Southwestern Academy uses the Standard Application Online (SAO). To learn more about using the SAO and begin your application, click here.

Southwestern Academy accepts applications throughout the year provided space is available.

Schedule a campus tour: We invite you to schedule a campus tour of Southwestern Academy. While on campus, you’ll tour the facilities, meet with students, faculty and administrators, and complete your interview with a member of the Admissions Team. Private campus tours are available Monday through Friday during school hours.

Schedule an interview: All applicants are required to schedule an interview as part of the admissions process. If visiting campus is not feasible during the application process, we welcome the chance to speak with you via Zoom. Student Shadow Days may be requested upon submission of the application.

Submit your application materials: Please use the Standard Application Online (SAO) to submit your application materials, including three years of transcripts, a letter of recommendation, student/family information, and essays. Our school code for SAO is 7430. A $100 application fee is required to submit your application.

International Students

Southwestern Academy offers a full English Language Learners (ELL) immersion program. In addition to conducting an English assessment, our Director of Academics carefully evaluates the applicant's academic records and formulates a graduation projection plan. Through these combined processes, we can determine the most suitable curriculum for each student.

English Assessment: Non-native English-speaking applicants are required to provide their English language test scores. We consider the TOEFL, TOEFL Junior, Duolingo English Test and the iTEP SLATE as valid assessments for our admissions process. Additional in-house testing may be necessary as well.

Visa: The application for a Form I-20 will be provided once the student has been accepted and tuition has been paid in full.

Please note: International students under Southwestern Academy’s student visa (F1) are required to live on campus in our boarding program.

Admission is based on selective criteria including prior academic record, teacher recommendations, and standardized assessments. The admission committee will also consider evidence of the applicant’s potential for success in a college-preparatory program.

Southwestern Academy is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
