Valuing the Individual
Southwestern Academy provides students with opportunities to help them discover and pursue their passions. Our curriculum reflects our belief that adolescence is a time for exploration and that during their middle and high school years, students thrive in an environment that values intellectual curiosity and growth. Because we know that there is no “one size fits all” approach to teaching and learning, we have designed our curriculum and teaching methods to be flexible in order to best meet the needs of our students as individuals. Southwestern students benefit from having the opportunity to choose from a variety of college prep courses in an environment composed of students with diverse learning styles.
Southwestern Academy’s curriculum is built to support and challenge a broad range of students. Whether they enter having a history of academic success or needing to gain confidence in their abilities, all our students benefit from the opportunity of a personalized course load that best suits their needs. Our program is designed to actively engage students and provide a road map to opportunities that otherwise might not be available to them
Contributing to the Whole
The Southwestern community is small by design in order to ensure that all of its members are truly known. It’s impossible to be anonymous here. The increased interactions between students and adults in our community because of our size, campus layout, and programming ensure that the relationships students build will last well beyond graduation. The experience is about more than just what occurs in our classrooms; it’s about learning how to live in a diverse community, finding ways to positively contribute, and recognizing the importance and values of others.
Expanding Opportunities
The Southwestern Academy experience is about more than what happens in the classroom. Our students are provided opportunities on a daily basis to further their talents or gain new interests through our co-curricular and extracurricular programs. Unlike other schools that require students to make a commitment to a single activity for the duration of a season, we allow students to explore various options simultaneously. Our schedule is designed to allow students to engage with multiple programs on a daily or weekly basis in order to help them gain a greater understanding of where their interests truly lie.
